Thank you so much for doing the survey. T...Hi Nana! Thank you so much for doing the survey. That is a big help.

Strangely, I started on Etsy selling jewellery (it didn't sell well) and then ended up selling my beads and art there :D I suppose the beauty of Etsy is that it allows you to move between genres without too much fuss. I am definitely thinking of going with prints and cards at the moment. Stickers are very popular but there is not much profit in them. I might add them to my web site later though. I do like your idea about little notecards. It is definitely something to think about. Thank you!Gillian McMurrayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11143539033002889940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230718882612351156.post-89649298598224779182020-08-30T14:07:27.708+01:002020-08-30T14:07:27.708+01:00You're right about it being hard to sell art. ...You're right about it being hard to sell art. I started out wanted to sell prints, but didn't do well. Started doing pendants with little pictures as art you could wear and then fell completely into jewellery from there, where I found my way :oD Funny old world.

I would definitely say go with prints and then offer the originals to the people who want more.
Another thing which might appeal to Etsy sellers are tiny notecards, which I struggle to find a good variety of. When people buy a gift from me which goes directly to the person they buy for; adding a full postcard/greeting card feels like too much, so I try to find tag sized art, but it's not easy to find. Trees and plants fit my brand and your style is a good match.

Just did your survey :o)
Good luckNanahttp://www.sycamoon.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230718882612351156.post-40848624539822631652019-07-12T09:50:55.550+01:002019-07-12T09:50:55.550+01:00I am so sorry to hear you are in the same position...I am so sorry to hear you are in the same position, Nana. I think there will be a lot of us in the same place. I agree with your comment about shipping for handmade items too. I don't think it is as important as Etsy thinks. They say 20% of customers who put things in their shopping cart don't go any further once they find out the shipping price. That is not a high proportion of sales at all. It is very sad that Etsy cannot see that we are offering something more than Amazon and Etsy. I hope your plan for free UK shipping helps though. It sounds like a good plan.Gillian McMurrayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11143539033002889940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230718882612351156.post-63675142085509928542019-07-11T23:20:39.137+01:002019-07-11T23:20:39.137+01:00I couldn't agree more, Gillian. I'm in the...I couldn't agree more, Gillian. I'm in the same boat, and if we hike the prices halfway between UK shipping and US shipping, we're basically making our UK customers pay for the US postage.
I am instead considering raising my prices just the UK shipping rate and offering free domestic shipping, thus giving the benefit to my UK customers instead.

But really, I don't think free shipping is important for customers who come for the handmade unique items like yours, and I hope you don't get less sales because of Etsy's odd sales strategy.Nana Louise Nielsenhttp://www.sycamoon.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5230718882612351156.post-33049511664648384652018-12-30T11:51:03.538+00:002018-12-30T11:51:03.538+00:00Thank you for your kind words, Nata. These buttons...Thank you for your kind words, Nata. These buttons are a variety of different styles of buttons called 'Leek buttons'. Most of these buttons are variations on the classic Deaths Head button and a Star Wrap button. If you are interested in finding out more about them then I would recommend www.ginabsilkworks.co.uk. Gina has excellent DVDs, a book and an online courses on making these kinds of buttons. I learned to make these buttons using her DVDs and book so I would highly recommend them. She even has a free tutorial on making the Death's Head button (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KURwwOU9Ffs). I hope that helps.
